Harm Reduction Alliance
Harm Reduction Alliance is a student run CHIP program that works within the Phoenix community to reduce harm associated with opiate and other drug use. We distribute Naloxone kits at community clinics and shelters and talk to individuals about preventing, recognizing and responding to opioid overdose.
What is Naloxone?
Naloxone, commonly known by the brand Narcan, is an opioid antagonist that is used to reverse opioid overdose. It is administered intramuscularly through a syringe or auto-injector, or intra-nasally, when opioid overdose is suspected. Administering Naloxone to unconscious individuals to reverse opioid overdose is protected by Good Samaritan laws in Arizona.
What is Harm Reduction?
Harm reduction is a set of public health strategies aimed at reducing the potential harm associated with drug use. Harm Reduction focuses on "meeting people where they are at" and acknowledging the humanity and dignity of individuals that use drugs providing tools and resources to promote health and wellness.
After completing the Harm Reduction Alliance training students can be involved by distributing Naloxone kits at one of our partnering sites or by participating in one of our kit making events.
