S.H.O.W. (Student Health Outreach for Wellness: Inter-professional Homeless Clinic)

Program Description

Student Health Outreach for Wellness (SHOW) is a tri-university, interprofessional, student run initiative dedicated to providing vulnerable populations with access to free healthcare and health education programs in Phoenix. We do this by providing free integrated clinical health services, health promotion and health literacy programs for vulnerable populations such as individuals experiencing homelessness, individuals from low income communities, and individuals recovering from substance use disorders.

Consisting of health professionals in the Maricopa County area as well as over 200 undergraduate and graduate volunteers from all three of Arizona's state universities (Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University), we work every single week to provide vulnerable populations with health services that they desperately need.

Current Programs

Health Education Programs

We provide weekly health education programs to our clients, educating them about everything from mental health to foot and ankle care.

Please contact me if you would be interested in presenting a topic. Classes usually take place on Saturdays.

Street Medicine

Using a street-based care model, we will provide acute medical care to individuals experiencing homelessness in the streets of Downtown Phoenix.

Crossroads Mesa Clinic

SHOW and Crossroads, Inc. are partnered to provide integrated care for individuals in Maricopa County recovering from substance use. This partnership is still in its early stages.

Hotspotting

Interprofessional teams of faculty and students will engage in a mentored curriculum and research project. Student teams from a range of disciplines will work with two or three patients identified as “super-utilizers” to help address their needs.

Special Events

SHOW often collaborates in other events throughout the valley. Announcements for these events will be made via email as they arise.

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Pfitzner and am very excited to be part of this year's SHOW leadership team! I was born in Rochester New York, and graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Arizona State University. During my undergraduate degree, I worked on many community health projects during my internship at Maricopa County department of Public Health, in addition to volunteering at many clinics and hospitals throughout the valley. I look forward to using these experiences to better serve the SHOW community and best represent our medical school in this incredible partnership. If you have any questions or need assistance regarding SHOW, please don't hesitate to contact me!
