Mission Statement

The mission of the OB/GYN interest group is to foster an interest in the field of OB/GYN through shadowing and mentoring opportunities, attending professional conferences, simulation and clinical skills workshops, and networking with residents and physicians in the field.

Fall 2020 - Reproductive Skills Night

A night in the simulation center that provided multiple opportunities to learn various clinical skills, such as vaginal deliveries, IUD insertions, gynecological exam and more.

March 2019 - Women's Health Week

We will be hosting a number of talks related to women's health and OB/GYN topics in the week leading up to International Women's Day on March 8th. More details forthcoming.

March 2018 - Women's Health Week

A week of events in celebration of International Women's Day on March 8th. Talks included an OB/GYN subspecialty panel, refugee women's health, and other reproductive health topics.

April 2018 - OB/GYN Residency Panel

Current residents discussed the application and Match process.

August 2018 - OB/GYN Social

A casual mixer that provided the opportunity to meet with current OB/GYN IG leadership, faculty, and physicians and learn more about the field of obstetrics and gynecology!

March 2017 - Women's Health Week

A week of lunch talks celebrating International Women's Day. Topics discussed included reproductive rights advocacy, breast cancer research, careers in OB/GYN, and overlaps between women's health and global health.

December 2016 - Reproductive Skills Night

Simulation event co-hosted with Medical Students for Choice. OB/GYN residents assisted in teaching medical students IUD insertions, breast cyst aspirations, and other clinical skills.

October 2016 - Annual Breast Cancer Walk

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Tempe Beach Park.

April 2016 - OB/GYN Across the Border

Lunch talk with Dr. Maria Manriquez on her trip to China as part of the "No Pain Labor and Delivery" global health initiative in December 2015, which introduced Chinese physicians, anesthesiologists, and patients to epidural anesthesia during delivery.

March 2016 - Women's Health Week

Coinciding with International women's day on March 8th, talks were hosted, including "Women's Health Under the Microscope," by Dr. Fischione, "Sex Talk," by Dr. Sharon Thompson, a dinner talk about Maternal Fetal Medicine with Dr. Linda Chambliss, and and OB/GYN Subspeciality Panel with Drs. Bradley Monk, Gyn/Oncology; Maria Castellanos, Minimally Invasive Surgery; and Paul Isaacson, Family Planning.
