Welcome Class of 2030!
Project Volatile is a faculty-guided medical student anesthesiology interest group dedicated to cultivating early passion, clinical excellence, and professional development in anesthesiology. With faculty support of Dr. Brandon Minzer, Project Volatile provides structured mentorship, educational programming, and hands-on experiences that prepare students for careers in perioperative medicine while fostering leadership, advocacy, scholarship, and service.
To build a dynamic, academically rigorous, and service-oriented community of future anesthesiologists who are clinically prepared, politically informed, research-engaged, and committed to advancing patient-centered perioperative care.
1. Education
Deliver comprehensive exposure to anesthesiology through faculty-led lectures, case-based discussions, subspecialty spotlights, residency preparation workshops, and mentorship forums. Programming will introduce perioperative medicine, critical care, pain management, and emerging innovations in the specialty.
2. Political Advocacy
Develop physician-advocates by educating students on healthcare policy, scope-of-practice issues, and legislative matters impacting anesthesiology. The group will collaborate with state and national societies to encourage participation in advocacy days, policy discussions, and grassroots engagement.
3. Research
Create structured pathways for student scholarship by pairing members with faculty mentors in clinical, translational, educational, and quality improvement research. The group will support abstract development, poster presentations, and manuscript submission to foster academic growth.
4. Simulation
Provide experiential learning through simulation-based workshops focused on airway management, crisis resource management, ultrasound fundamentals, and procedural skills. These sessions will reinforce patient safety, teamwork, and clinical decision-making in a low-risk, high-yield environment.
5. Community Outreach
Promote service and community engagement through health fairs, perioperative safety education, mentorship of pre-medical students, and community health initiatives. Outreach efforts will reflect the specialty’s commitment to safety, education, and compassionate care.
