Ultrasound Clinic

Taught by Dr. Teresa Wu, the Ultrasound Director at MMC, as well as several attendings in the ED and Radiology. We were joined by 7 residents and had five stations for students to practice. We were also lucky enough to have the pregnant wives of two residents come, as well as our very own Jena Morris (wife of Jason), who was 38 weeks at the time.

EMIG PALOOZA

A wilderness medicine campout of epic proportions. Come hang out with some of the coolest kids on campus and get to know your classmates better! Activities include a wilderness medicine talk by several EM residents, swimming in Fossil Creek, hikes, and sleeping under the stars.

Intubation Clinic

  • "Intubation and Protecting the Airway" talk from anesthesiologist Dr. Marie Mesaros

  • Short intro from Eric Daniels from Karl Storz Endoscopy on the fiberoptic scopes we will be using.

  • PLAY TIME - we hope to have at least an hour to try out the scopes on the manikins so everyone should have plenty of time!

Zombie Triage: Disaster Medicine Night

The chief EM resident at Maricopa will give a lecture on the basics of triage and some of her experiences in Disaster Medicine. Dinner will be served. Afterwards, put your skills to the test with daring and life-threatening challenges! Yes, the winner takes all, and that all is in a Zombie Cup.

Casting/Splinting Clinic with FMIG

With the help of local Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine physicians, a hand surgeon, a nurse, an ER tech, EMIG and FMIG held a casting and splinting clinic for students to learn about the different types of splints and casts used for upper extremity injuries. Students applied and removed splints and casts to each other and participating clinicians.

Lunch talks topics- "Urban Search and Rescue FEMA - The Physician's Role" with Dr. Franco Castro-Marin, Pediatric Emergency Medicine - Dr. Dale Woolridge, Cardiotoxicity from Drugs of Abuse - Dr. Ayrn O'Connor, "Wilderness Medicine" - Dr. Auerbach (in coordination with Wilderness Medicine Interest Group), "Why EM?": Dr. Brad Butler, & "Venomous Bites and Stings" with Dr. Dan Quan
