Welcome Class of 2030!
The Chess Interest Group (Chess Club) is a student-led organization with the purpose of providing UA students with a place to learn and practice chess. Chess is a phenomenal way to have fun and train your brain at the same time! It involves both logical and heuristic thinking that is applicable in medicine, while also serving as a healthy source of friendly competition and entertainment. Meetings are weekly and everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary!
The Chess Club aims to create a casual environment to have fun and socialize through the game of chess and welcomes everyone of all experience levels—from none to highly experienced. Regardless of each participant's level of interest in the game, we hope that these activities are therapeutic and help us get to know each other more. For beginners who wish to learn to improve on the game, we would enthusiastically guide you along that journey. Due to its intellectually complex and strategically demanding, the literature cites many benefits of chess on cognitive function and its potential as a protective factor against neurodegenerative diseases.
